The City Circle Saturday School, established in 1999, seeks to provide supplementary education to students' aged between 8-18 years. Educational disadvantage remains one of the most destructive and harmful issues in the UK. Sadly, a student’s performance at school depends to a large extent on their background, where they are born, who their parents are and which school they go to. The inequality gap continues to widen and many young people are unable to fulfil their potential. The City Circle Saturday School aims not only to address educational disadvantage but to provide positive role models who contribute to the development of balanced adults who will be able to make a positive impact within their communities. We believe that with the right level of support from the school and commitment from the students, every child is capable of the highest level of academic achievement.
The vast majority of the students at the school come from low-income families and in some cases their first language is not English. The school charges a nominal fee which enables us to focus on helping the most disadvantaged members of the community. The level of educational attention required by these children is greater than that required by their peers, and these needs are often not met in inner-city state schools and are very costly through private tuition. We are only able to provide this service to the community with the help of the Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre, where the weekly classes take place, as well as an amazing team of dedicated volunteers who harness their energy and enthusiasm to drive exceptional results from their students.
The main aims of the Saturday School are:
At the end of the year we put on 2-3 weeks of activities that show recognition for the hard work carried out over the year. Trips/Events are organised ranging from the London Aquarium to the Annual Sports Day.
Summer school is a good opportunity for students at the Saturday supplementary school to take part in cultural and community-building activities.
If you have a few hours to spare on Saturdays, help out at the City Circle Saturday School.
